Ed letters ~ 24 hours in Sydney: A yogis’ guide

From Humming Puppy to a 5 star high tea, we've got you covered for a day in the city.

I love visiting Sydney. A world away from my quiet Northern Rivers life, I delight in immersing myself in the hustle and bustle of city life – especially the smorgasbord of yogic delights the big smoke has to offer! So I made sure to include a Sydney stopover on my way to Bali (hashtag thisisthelife).

My day began with a delicious mellow class at Redfern’s Humming Puppy – a studio that’s quickly becoming one of my favourites to visit when I’m in town. The community is welcoming, the students dedicated and the shala cosy and classy – accommodating around 30 students in a peaceful room with warm lighting and a meditative sound frequency humming from the speakers, especially designed to take you deeper into your practice (and it works!). I wandered out of class feeling blissed out and more yoga-drunk than ever.

Conveniently, quirky tea bar The Rabbit Hole, is right next door and serves an array of delectable herbal teas and tasty treats to indulge in post-class.

I made my way into the heart of the city, wandering through the busy-ness and appreciating the contrast to my own sense of calm as I headed towards Radisson Blu Plaza Sydney – the first 5 star hotel in the city to offer a 100% vegan high tea. Feeling elegant whilst sipping on my tea, I waited patiently as I dreamily anticipated the arrival of the beautiful spread. The indulgent finger food arrived, and I sat in my plush lounge chair people watching through the hotel’s vintage windows as I delightedly relished curry puffs, asparagus and hummus sandwiches, roasted pumpkin scones (with vegan cream and jam of course), rich chocolate cupcakes with beetroot icing, banana caramel cheesecake and more.

On a sugar high, I needed some down time, so I checked into my room, rolled out the (provided) yoga mat, and tried the In Room 20:20:20 – a wellness regime to enjoy from the comfort of your stylish room on the flat screen tv. After some mindfulness and asana, a dip in the indoor swimming pool and some time in the steam room, I was ready to call it a day. After some delicious down time, I drifted off into a sweet slumber, oblivious to the city sounds surrounding whilst melting into the comfort of 5 star luxury.

The next morning I made my way to Surry Hills’ Organic Produce, the perfect place to fill up on healthy, organic goodness before jet setting off again.

I left looking forward to the next time I touch down in the big smoke for more yoga adventures.
