We’ve got a good excuse for you to take your shoes off and get outside this summer. It’s called Earthing and there’s a whole lot of research to support its benefits. The studies explore the practice of grounding in relation to inflammation, immune responses, chronic pain, mood and more, often discovering huge improvements. One study hypothesised that the reason for the positive results is that “connecting the body to the Earth enables free electrons from the Earth’s surface to spread over and into the body, where they can have antioxidant effects…The living matrix, the very fabric of the body, appears to serve as one of our primary antioxidant defence systems”, and, according to the report, it is a system that requires occasional recharging by contact with the Earth’s surface – “the battery for all planetary life.” To be awed by the full study, head to www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov and look for ‘The effects of grounding (earthing) on inflammation, the immune response, wound healing, and prevention and treatment of chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.’
